Ghosts from the past
The eclectic Icelandic songwriter/producer Bardi Johannsson is the mysterious man behind the music project Bang Gang. He debuted in 1998 with the album You, which was followed by Something Wrong in 2003. In 2006 he teamed up with French singer Karen Anne and produced Lady & Bird, an album including an outstanding version of Velvet Underground’s Stephanie Says. That same year saw the release of the soundtrack Haxan, a score written by Johannsson for the 1920s cult horror film and performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria. His newest project, Ghosts from the Past, with its sophisticated psychedelic pop sound, is a return to the atmosphere of Something Wrong.
Bardi Johannsson also works on a number of projects outside the music scene, including the creation of an outfit for the show Dressing Ourselves, held at the 2004 Triennale in Milan, and, that same year, directing a short surrealist film, Red Death, which was shown at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
