Ferry Costen, also known by his nicknames System F and Gouryella, is one of the ten most famous DJs in the world, and has been a pioneer in the realm of trance music. He has created an exclusive New Year’s compilation for YOOX.COM, as well as a selection of favorite items.

1. Your latest album “Twice In A Blue Moon” has just been released. How was it born and what was your inspiration behind it?
For the past year and a half, I’ve been playing a lot of trance again. I really think that trance as a genre is going into an amazing direction with a lot of possibilities music-wise. Because of this, I wanted to make an album that was a lot more melodic and warm than my previous albums “L.E.F.” and “Right Of Way”. During the production of this album, my wife gave birth to my little baby girl. The whole pregnancy etc. was a major inspiration for me!

2. In your opinion, what will be the evolution in trance music over the next few years?
I think trance will widen its horizons even more than it already is. And the production level will get ever higher.

3. Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with?
I would love to do something with U2’s Bono or with Seal.

4. You are promoting your new album with a world tour. What is the most exciting city to perform in?
It’s very difficult to point out one city as the most exciting one, but I do have a few favorites like Buenos Aires, L.A. and Tokyo. I will be touring the whole of next year to promote the album with various bigger shows in various cities around the world.

5. What present would you like for Christmas?
For me it would be sharing Christmas together with my family and friends. Especially since I’m traveling the whole year already, so that would be a nice “present” for me.

6. Could you suggest a playlist for New Year’s Eve party?
Good question! One of the tracks that lots of DJs play on New Year’s Eve is the remix I did in 1999 for U2’s New Year’s Day, so “U2 – New Year’s Day (Ferry Corsten Remix)” has to be played for sure! And then… here is my playlist…
