A wonderland of symbols and colors: in Karim Rashid’s world, design is fast-paced and constantly seeking beauty and harmony, in a kaleidoscopic universe of everyday objects and futuristic spaces.
The New Yooxer met up with Karim Rashid in Milan: seated on the Hot Dog sofa he created for Domodinamica, surrounded by a crowd of fans and intrigued passers-by, the designer-cum-DJ talked about his passion for electronic music and the digital world.

The man is on a mission to redesign the world we live in through easy and immediate projects, as he wrote in Evolution. The coming together of neon and metal for the Blobulous chairs, the Kaj clocks for Alessi, the sinuous lines of the Kurve restaurant in New York’s East Village and the hi-tech pharmacy in Belgrade whose shape resembles the human body – just a part of his super output, highly representative of the eclectic mind of a cosmopolitan artist.
Born in Egypt, he studied in Canada and worked in Italy and London before choosing to settle in New York where he opened his studio. His daring creations feature mystic signs that read almost like hieroglyphs, albeit in the trademark ultra-modern way that fits in to his ever-evolving designs.
