Pop Design

Hybrid objects that decorate any environment with harmony and irony: the whimsical world of cartoons is the inspiration behind Serie POP. Three sculptural vases designed by Massimo Iosa Ghini for yoox.com. The designer talks to the The New Yooxer about his multi-faceted journey, from the avant-garde Memphis Group to a focus on sustainability.

The studio of Massimo Iosa Ghini, in Bologna’s historic center, is a gathering place for the wide range of objects that represent the designer’s varied career. From the years of the Bolidism to the Memphis Group, under the guide of Ettore Sottsass, to his collaboration with Ferrari and the city of Hannover, where he designed the main subway station in 2000: a constant exploration among the realms of architecture and design, public and private spaces, visual and narrative expression.

The Serie POP project has been developed following the same lines. The capsule collection created for yoox.com includes three vases-sculptures in vivid colors, entirely handmade from the renowned red clay of Faenza and covered with enamel. Familiar, friendly characters from beloved comics have been reinterpreted here in original and whimsical forms.
