Frieze Art Fair 2009

One hundred and sixty-five contemporary art galleries, for a total of over 1,000 artists from 30 different countries: these are the notable numbers from the Frieze Art Fair 2009. The figures speak to the success of the event that, in its seventh edition, took place in London for over five days, offering the best from the worldwide contemporary art market. This year’s newest feature was the Frame section: a space dedicated to 29 emerging art galleries that have been operative for less than six years, with each one selecting a single artist to highlight. Jordan Wolfson, the American concept artist based between Berlin and New York, was the fourth winner of the Cartier Award with the work Your Napoleon: an intervention based on the String Theory of physics. Also worth noting was Frieze Film, which presented a project from the Danish collective, Superflex: a film in four episodes entitles The Financial Crisis, which treats the phenomenon like a psychological condition and where the viewers are guided by an actor-analyst who uses hypnosis techniques to relieve trauma.
