Inside Proenza Schouler - bohemian newyorker style

The New York-based fashion duo of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez talk exclusively with The New Yooxer about online fashion and about the Pitti event in Florence, where they gave a preview of the women’s and accessories collections for Spring-Summer 2010 currently being presented in New York.

During Pitti_W, which was held in the beautiful Villa Petraia, the duo of Proenza Schouler presented a special event featuring a musical performance and an artistic exhibition curated by Haim Steinbach of the new line of accessories designed in cooperation with the Italian brand Giuseppe Zanotti Design. Discreet luxury and a willingness to experiment are part of Jack McCollough’s and Lazaro Hernandez’s DNA. That’s why they decided to create a video directed by video artist Kalup Linzy (who also acts in the video) with a cameo appearance made by Chloë Sevigny and super model Liya Kebede, followed by a performance by singer Kembra Pfahler and a group of dancers dressed in Afro-Alien style. Since the beginning of their career in 2002, the two young designers have represented the new deal of American fashion - even with unconventional choices. Their generation can understand what women really want to wear today. Jack and Lazaro create clothes that are halfway between haute couture and on-the-road fashion. Their original approach to design has won over the public and people working in the fashion industry, starting with the label’s name combining the last names of their mothers – their first genuine source of inspiration.
