With an indisputably extraordinary voice and a personal style that inspires many designers, Skin gives an exclusive video interview to the New Yooxer in which she talks about her relationship with fashion, her need for change and her restless character.
She herself admits to having an anarchic and impertinent character; she’s not afraid of change and is prone to contradictions. From the start of her career she’s displayed the kind of gritty sensuality that has transformed her image into a kind of punk-rock Amazon warrior woman. Besides being the sublime vocalist for Skunk Anansie, she stands out for her extraordinary look, sometimes androgynous but always unmistakable: stretch pants and spike heels, leather jackets and shimmery details in biker-glam style.

In perfect harmony with her personal style, her restlessness invokes continuous change and shifting in musical sound. After her breathtaking success with Skunk Anansie, in 2003 Skin broke out on a solo career and radically changed direction with her debut album Fleshwounds, a slow and introspective album with traces of personal suffering, whose lyrics reveal inner wounds and new beginnings; a disc that gave birth to blockbuster singles like “Trashed” and “Faithfulness”.
With her incredible energy, she changed course again in 2006 with the launch of her second solo album, Fake Chemical State, where her rebellious side makes itself felt once again. That gravelly voice signaled a return to her original rock sound – with her signature power but without the corrosive lyrics from her early years.
As she explains in this video interview, Skin has begun to establish herself as one of Europe’s most sought-after DJs, returning to one of her teenage passions.
