ever.green series #1 by Angela Lindvall

The supermodel Angela Lindvall, immortalized by renowned photographers like Peter Lindberg and Steven Meisel, is famous not only for her beauty but for her commitment to environmental issues. This passion has resulted in a creative collaboration with YOOXYGEN and EDUN LIVE, which she recounts to The New Yooxer.
Angela Lindvall, the model who prefers the rugged nature of her Topanga ranch to cosmopolitan chaos, has lent her talent and passion to the special ever.green project created by YOOXYGEN: a collection of limited edition T-shirts. Available in both men’s and women’s models, the T-shirts were illustrated by Lindvall, who was inspired by the shadows created by trees, and have been produced by EDUN LIVE, the company founded by Ali Hewson and Bono with the aim of sustaining people in developing countries by making fair-trade, eco-friendly T-shirts in organic cotton. Proceeds from the sales will go to the non-governmental organization GREEN CROSS INTERNATIONAL.

READ THE INTERVIEW

What’s your idea for giving OXYGEN to the earth?
People’s increased awareness will hopefully change the way business practices are done; this will have the most powerful impact on the environment. Laws in business, manufacturing, and distribution should be established, laws that protect every being on earth. After all, we are the earth. And I like to focus on the positive actions each of us can take.
What is the most important eco-attitude?
At my home in Topanga Canyon, where I live with my two boys, I love hosting people from all walks of life and use these gatherings to both celebrate community and address the issues at hand. Teaching my children while they are young ensures that an eco-friendly attitude becomes second nature, whereas we – as an older generation – need to recondition ourselves and the way we do things.
What’s your daily eco-friendly act?
I am in process of setting up my house to become more sustainable by installing solar panels, composting all organic waste and figuring out a drainage/water collection system. I’ve planted a vegetable garden to feed my family and am raising chickens.
Are there traces of your eco-style in your wardrobe?
In my closet you will find a mix of high fashion pieces, vintage treasures and up and coming eco-designers who I like to support. The pieces worn here are either made of peace silk (worms do not die for this garment) dyed with twigs and berries, or from organic cotton hand-picked by fair trade workers in India. Others come from recycled garments or curtains.
What will be your green revolution?
We are entering an “eco” industrial revolution – it’s exciting! When we invest ourselves in these ways, we push the larger whole to do the same. It’s the tipping point. This
is the future. Fashion is a great platform for inspiring change. We are not creating
trends here, but a new movement in consciousness.
Solutions exist: it’s a matter of educating, providing alternatives, and implementing a new structure. My shirt design was inspired from the shadows of trees. Sometimes, it’s our shadow side that pushes us to grow…
