AIR on Tne New Yooxer

From Versailles to the moon. Hailing from the outskirts of Paris, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, otherwise known as Air, established themselves on the international electronic music scene at the end of the 1990s with their unique and refined sounds. Their new album is a tribute to the classic silent science-fiction movie Le Voyage dans la Lune and its legendary director Georges Méliès. Here is music that is truly out of this world.

Air’s first singles were released in 1997 and immediately caught the attention of Depeche Mode for whom they remixed several tracks. The critically acclaimed “Moon Safari” followed in 1998, featuring the single “Sexy Boy”, and met with great success in Europe and the United States. The band’s music has been included in the soundtracks of films such as “The Virgin Suicides” and “Lost in Translation” (Sofia Coppola is a big fan!) and now they are back, with achievements such as “Talkie Walkie” and “Pocket Symphony” under their belts. “Le Voyage dans La Lune” is an original project that puts Méliès’ masterpiece into music. At the beginning of last century the French silent movie inaugurated the season of adventurous cinema and Air’s seventh studio album is born of the film’s soundtrack. From 1902 to today, a fantastical trip to the moon.
